Are you considering residing in Poland? Great choice! In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the residency requirements for both EU citizens and Non-EU citizens who are eager to make Poland their home.

Residency Requirements in Poland for EU Citizens

If you’re an EU citizen or a family member, you’re in luck! Poland welcomes you without any special permissions. However, there are still a few registration obligations to fulfil. Within 30 days of arriving in Poland, register your address if you plan to stay longer than 3 months. It’s based on the validity period of your lease agreement. Remember, complete your residency registration no later than the day after the 3-month period following your entry. You’ll need to be present in person for this registration. If your residence card’s validity period expires, you’ll receive a shiny new residence permit. Family members enjoy the same rights, just make sure everyone completes their registration obligations.

Residency Requirements in Poland for Non-EU Citizens

Non-EU citizens, we’re excited to have you in Poland too! To reside here, you’ll need to obtain a national visa or residency permit. Without these permissions, your stay in Poland (and other Schengen countries) should not exceed 90 days within a 180-day period. This applies to some Non-EU citizens, however for the majority of countries visa will be required during this time. It is necessary to check your individual case. Additionally, within 4 days of your arrival, register your address (unless you’re staying in a hotel where they take care of this for you).

Temporary Residence Permit in Poland for Non-EU Citizens

Ready to call Poland your temporary home? Non-EU citizens can apply for a Temporary Residence Permit, allowing you to live in the country for up to 3 years. Just make sure you clearly state and document the purpose of your residency. That’s where ProRelo comes in! Our immigration expert can assist you in obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit for employment, family reunification, business or study purposes. Once you receive your residency permit, a card will also be issued, acting as your official proof of residency in Poland. Plus, it allows you to travel to other Schengen countries hassle-free.

Long-Term Residence Permit in Poland for Non-EU Citizens

Planning to stick around for the long haul? Once you’ve been residing in Poland for at least 5 years for economic reasons (such as work) or as a family member, you can apply for a long-term resident’s residence permit. This awesome permit allows you to work in Poland without needing special work permits. How convenient is that?

Permanent Residence Permit in Poland for Non-EU Citizens

If your primary purpose of stay in Poland is not for economic reasons, a Permanent Residence Permit might be the perfect fit for you. Eligible individuals include spouses of Polish citizens, persons of Polish origin, children of those who already hold a permanent residence permit or a long-term EU resident’s residence permit, as well as asylum seekers or refugees.

A Comprehensive Guide: How to obtain a residency permit in Poland for EU and Non-EU Citizens

Temporary Residence Permits are granted for up to 3 years, but don’t worry about cutting it close. While you can apply for a prolongation until the last day of your valid residency, we recommend starting the process earlier. During this time, your residency (including work) remains legal, but keep in mind that your residency card may expire, which can make travel a bit tricky. To avoid any bumps along the way, ProRelo suggests launching the prolongation process at least 6 months before your permit’s expected expiration date.
